Modernization steam boiler plant milk processing plant

Location: Eschweiler - Luxembourg

The customer had only one very old Philippe Loos steam boiler (more than 45 years old) running on heavy fuel oil. Several problems prompted the customer to explore new production solutions to ensure the continuity of their production. The boiler’s emissions (NOx, CO, etc.) no longer met current standards, leading to complaints from the neighborhood due to noise and smoke odors. In addition, it was increasingly difficult to obtain quality heavy fuel oil, and the village has no access to natural gas or other fuels. The option to use light fuel oil proved too expensive at the time, and the burner was not compatible for that purpose. Moreover, due to the age of the boiler and burner (more than 45 years), reliability had greatly decreased. Given the short production stops, the new solution should be well suited to this.

Analysis

BBC has been present at the site for many years for maintenance and service, and supported the customer in the search for alternative solutions to ensure sustainable steam production, which is crucial for the operation of the plant. Moreover, all the proposed solutions could be realized without long production stoppages, thus ensuring continuity of production.

Solution

After investigating several possible solutions, BBC has offered a complete, turnkey steam installation, powered by LNG, for a steam production of 6,000 kg/h in three phases, with no interruption to production. In phase 1, a new boiler, burner, control panels, interconnection pipelines and gas line will be delivered to the customer’s new LNG reducing station. In phase 2, the old boiler will be removed to make way for a new boiler water tank and interconnections. In phase 3, the old water tank will be removed and the entire installation disposed of.
